Expert Rooter Services in Chattanooga, TN
While the humidity and roughly 54 inches of rainfall here in the Tennessee Valley lays down a punishment on your HVAC systems here in Chattanooga, these factors directly lead to sewer line problems. How? Trees. Chattanooga’s dense canopy, plus older lines underground mean that root intrusions are a bit of a way of life here in the Scenic City.
Pioneer Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, & Electrical’s has been Chattanooga’s first choice for router services in the Valley for decades. Since 1981, we’ve helped homeowners with every home system they have, and our drain experts help our Chattanooga neighbors every day.
Why Chattanooga’s Tree Canopy Makes Root Intrusion an Ongoing Concern
We’re really fortunate here in Chattanooga to have such a stunning landscape: you’d have to try to miss the mature White Oaks, Sweetgums, Sycamores, and Eastern Red Cedars dotting the city and burbs. Tree roots are always on the move, searching for water underground. With the rainfall keeping soil moist and the sheer wall of humidity laying low in the Valley, they’ve essentially got a license to move around unfettered, finding their way into your pipes. In short, root intrusion doesn’t take a break like it would in drier markets.
Along with Mother Nature, older pipes (clay & cast iron) are swiftly reaching the upper limit of their age range. Along with general wear and tear, they’re showing cracks and joint gaps that roots find with ease, working their way in and causing further damage.
But that’s why router services here matter so much. Rooter services clears those roots, (no matter the tree) currently inside the pipe. But without a long-term solution, those joint gaps will remain open and you might need recurring router visits. That’s why investing in trenchless sewer line repair’s a great option here.
Rooter Service vs. Drain Cleaning vs. Hydro Jetting: What’s the Difference?
There are three related but different services you’ll see, and we find a lot of people confuse the three. We’re here to clear that up for you.
Rooter Service
This is when we use a mechanical cutting head on top of a drain snake (AKA an auger) to physically cut through the mass of roots in your pipe. We cut the roots and flush them through the system. It takes care of roots but doesn;t really address the grease or a mineral scale on the insides of your pipes.
Drain Cleaning
Classic drain cleaning handles that grease, soap scum, food, mineral scale, and more in your drain line. We use the drain snake again to clean out all of the buildup. It won;t exactly clean the pipes and won’t cut it against stubborn buildup. It’s not the right tool for tree roots, either.
Hydro Jetting
Hydro jetting in Chattanooga is the right option when you want to completely clean the insides of a pipe. It uses high-pressure water (think of a power washer; around 3,5000 PSI or so) to completely blast the walls clean. It’s great for that extensive buildup from years of use. Think of it like ‘factory resetting’ your pipes. The Pioneer crew will do a camera inspection and let you know which method you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does a Chattanooga home need router services?
It really depends on your property. For example, how many trees are on your property? Do you have clay or cast iron laterals? If so, you may rooter services every 1-3 years without a permanent fix. If you’ve had any pipe lining or replacement with PVC, you won’t usually face the same issues. Either way, we can find out for you. We’ll do a comprehensive camera run into the pipes and let you know where you (and your lines) stand.
Does Pioneer use a camera before rooter service in Chattanooga?
Yes, it shows us exactly what’s wrong with your pipes, and it’s just good practice. First, we run a camera through the lateral. This shows us what’s wrong with the pipe: corrosion, tree root intrusion, general pipe damage, etc. Then we recommend what to do next; we’ll advise on either repair or replacement. Either way, you’ll know what’s happening with your pipe every step of the way.
Can I prevent tree roots from getting into my Chattanooga drain lines?
If there’s a dense buildup of trees on your property, probably not, no. If you have cast iron or clay pipes, it’s really a matter of when, not if tree roots will invade. The best way to prevent problems is with PVC, which doesn’t have the same joints that older pipes have. There are root treatments available, but it really varies. Pioneer can run a camera into your pipes and get an idea of where you stand. That’s why scheduling an annual inspection’s a great idea. Plus, if you’re a member of the Crockett Club, you get those drain inspections as part of the membership.
