Seasonal Allergies in Full Bloom: Nip them in the Bud

When homeowners notice the first chill in the air from fall they are apt to crank up the heat on their furnace or head outside to enjoy autumn activities such as picking apples or finding that perfect pumpkin. Yet for some people, the change in season can mean allergies. Just because the blooms of summer fade doesn’t mean people who suffer from allergies are in the clear. In fact, fall can bring ragweed, mold, dust mites and the largest trigger for allergies. It can last into September and even October.

Common Symptoms:

  • Runny nose
  • Watery eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Itchy eyes and nose
  • Dark circles under the eyes

People who suffer from allergies need to be wary of the air outside their homes and the air inside. While we can’t do anything about the great outdoors, we can do some things about the not-so-great indoor air quality of our homes.  Here are some ways to enjoy fall and have clean, phenomenal air in your home.

Get your ducts in order. Schedule a duct cleaning.  A good rule of thumb is for homeowners to have air ducts cleaned every three to five years. This recommendation is not for only for your existing home but also for a home you may be purchasing in the future. Previous homeowners may have had pets or other air issues.  Dust and allergens gather the most in the air ducts which can’t be reached. Schedule a cleaning with us to keep your HVAC system cleaned and allergen-free.

Replace air filters.  This simple piece of air conditioning maintenance is often the most popular go-to home air cleaning solution.  This is because old, dirty air filters are going to continue to filter your air, resulting in lower air quality, leading to excess dust to respiratory problems.  Replacing the filters not only saves you money and improves the air quality indoors, but it also expands the life of your HVAC system. Dust, pet hair and cat dander over time can build up in filters, decreasing the quality of your indoor air.  To control this, many homeowners participate in air filter subscription services.

Consider an air filtration system.  Air filtration systems are becoming standard in newer homes.  If your home doesn’t have a system, talk to your air conditioning service about the steps to installing a system.  When paired with efficient HVAC systems, air filtration systems are known to do wonders for indoor air quality.

If you suffer from allergies and think your HVAC system could be contributing, it’s time for Pioneer Heating & Air  to help. Call us today at 1945 Fremont Ave S to set up a service appointment. We also have an air filters subscription service so you don’t have to keep track of when you’ll need your air filter replaced—we’ll do it for you!
