4 END OF SUMMER MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR YOUR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

Summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the summer heat has left just yet. You’re still in for some hot days, and so is your air conditioning system. Before autumn rears its colorful head and brings some cooler temperatures, that AC unit is going to keep running. However, just because it won’t be running for much longer doesn’t mean you don’t need to take care of it. Here are a few tips to help you complete that end of summer maintenance for your air conditioners.

Change the Filter
If you haven’t already, it’s time to change the filter. It’s allergy season once again, and keeping those allergens out of your house should be top priority. Believe it or not, changing your air conditioner’s filter can help with that, providing only clean air in your home.

Clear Any Obstructions
Make sure there is nothing blocking the flow of air into your outdoor unit. Especially with autumn right around the corner, you should be on the lookout for leaves, branches, and other kinds of obstructions that could prevent air from flowing properly.

Use That Ceiling Fan
Your HVAC unit has worked hard all summer to keep you cool, and now with the promise of cooler weather around the corner, it’s time to give it a much deserved break. A programmable thermostat can reduce your bill by up to 10%, but even then, a good ceiling fan is an ally.

Schedule Preventative Maintenance
Just like giving your car an oil change, you should schedule an inspection with your air conditioning company at least twice every year for your HVAC system. One inspection should be done in the spring, right before you fire the air conditioning system up, and the other should be in the fall, right before you turn it off. In addition, you should have your heating system checked in preparation for the winter weather.
